Baikal lake is the largest reserve of fresh water in the world. Siberian populations consider Baikal lake as a sacred sea also called « Pearl of Siberia ». His storms are dreaded and his divine power is respected. Humans and animals have no alternative but to adapt their lifestyle to the harshness of the climate.
The ice of Baikal lake carved by the Siberian winds is frozen between movements and fractures by less thirty degrees. Nature shows a mesmerizing creativity revealing the transparency and the purity of the water. In some places, the lake seems to have frozen in full storm. Even the waves are taken in ice, becoming fixed and solid as if the cold had fallen like a magic spell! It is not uncommon to hear the ice cracking since the depths of the lake, giving rise to vast expanses of chiseled blocks.
